Fact vs. Fiction: Avon Schools Must be Held Accountable
“Vote NO! Avon Schools must be held accountable.”
Don’t believe the chatter. As a publicly funded institution, Avon Schools is held to an incredibly high standard of accountability – and they keep receipts.
A vote to punish Avon Schools is seriously misled and only punishes students, educators, and our community.
Avon Schools is not the type of organization that does shady financial deals in back alleys and plays fast-and-loose with taxpayer dollars. Trustworthiness, openness, transparency, and accountability are the values that guide and direct ACSC’s use of public funds.
For starters:
They are audited regularly.
They send regular financial reports to the Indiana Department of Education.
They report regularly to the State Board of Accounts.
Anyone can access Avon’s financial reports via the Indiana Gateway.
Avon publishes helpful information, contracts, public notices, certified employee contracts, and other financial forms on the Finance Department webpage.
Avon Schools has even gone to great lengths to educate the public about how school finance works.
Every year in August, September, and October, Avon Schools holds public budget meetings that are open to the public and where public comments are heard about the budget.
Since May 2018, ACSC has produced a Referendum Progress Report to demonstrate exactly how funds were being used.
Does this sound like an institution that is operating in the shadows? Does it sound like Avon is shying away from accountability?
Absolutely not.
You can vote YES 4 Avon Schools with full confidence that your tax dollars will be used as promised. They’ll be more than happy to show you the receipts.
